ICE CREAM, SPUN BETTER
Spun was founded by Simon Wiviott (CEO) and Cole Barhyte (COO), best friends of seven years who bring complementary skills and deep food industry roots to the brand.
Simon had the original idea for Spun, testing 50+ formulation iterations before partnering with Oregon State University's Food Innovation Center to further formulation. Studying art at Cu Boulder and currently working as a tattoo artist based in Venice, California, Simon brings a sharp eye for design, brand identity, and social media culture.
Cole leads finance and operations, bringing a business background from the Leeds School of Business at CU Boulder along with hands-on experience at Suzie's Organics, his family's company, and sales experience at Anheuser-Busch.
Based in San Diego and Venice, Simon and Cole live the health-conscious, better-for-you lifestyle Spun is made for.
● Why cultured dairy?
Better from the starT
Cultured dairy is what happens when milk meets live cultures and transforms into something richer, creamier, and more complex.
The process creates a naturally thick texture, a subtle depth of flavor, and a dairy base that's inherently more interesting than conventional milk. It's an old-world approach that produces something modern consumers are increasingly looking for: food that's both indulgent and thoughtfully made.
Starting with a cultured dairy base means we're not engineering nutrition into the product - it's already there.
Fermentation naturally contributes to a denser texture, elevated protein, and a smoother scoop that stays creamy in the freezer without becoming icy or grainy. Just as importantly, it develops the richness and complexity that make our ice cream taste premium first and functional second.
We're not adding things to make it better.
We're starting with something that already is.
Culture is in our DNA.
Culture is in our DNA - literally.
Our ice cream is built on a cultured dairy system, and the brand we're building around it is no different.
Spun isn't just a product. It's a point of view.
The people who gravitate toward Spun tend to care about more than what's on their spoon. They care about design, creativity, taste, and the details that make everyday experiences feel special. They notice the packaging before they read the ingredients. They appreciate things that are thoughtfully made.
Spun Culture is for people who are into things. Good things.
The restaurants they revisit. The records they play. The objects they keep around longer than they need to. The brands they recommend to friends.
We're not interested in defining that culture too tightly.
You know it when you see it.
And when you pull a pint of Spun from the freezer, you already know.
